Real Security
Congressional Democrats released their plan for the future security of America today. I've read it and it sound like the party is moving in the right direction, however - like the rebuffs - they seem to be talking in vague terms, and I don't like that. Perhaps it is for time concerns or the fact that most people don't care enough or have enough time to get into it (which would include me, but I've made time).
Anyway, the rebuffs have had their fun criticizing the report, but that shouldn't weigh in with mainstream America as we've been living their alternative or plan for security for 5 years now without much progress or good news (NOT the fault of the media!).
Senator Christopher S. Bond made an ass of himself and his party by getting quoted in the NY Times today stating, "It's taken them all this time to figure out what we've been doing for a long time."
I'd bet he never really read the plan, but rather shipped it off to his spin Department for talking points. Here's what they came up with:
Mr. Bond said that while Democrats sought to showcase their support of national security, they had tried to block renewal of the antiterrorism law known as the USA Patriot Act and the administration's program of wiretapping without warrants. This will probably resonate with the feeble and those who have had their fear mongered to a point of paranoia, but his assertion that the Dems are weak on security because they sought to rewrite laws so that they are in one respect Constitutional and at the same time able to protect our way of life is funny and indicative of the nadir reached by our Republican leaders. Protecting things like liberty and freedom should be the first things we protect as a nation, otherwise why protect it.
I'm proud to be sitting in the Democratic tent right now! Posted by Geoff
YOU do NOT support our troops
That's right, I said it and I'm right. No matter how many yellow ribbons made in China you put on your trunk, you still aren't supporting the troops.
Do you see anything wrong with the fact that you just did, or are just about to, go to H&R Block and pay them to help you keep tax dollars that our government needs in time of war? Your grandparents bought War Bonds and you buy plasma screen TV's. Your grandparents collected steel and aluminum to help with the war effort while you fill landfills to the brim with plastic crap you never even needed. During WWII our grandparents or parents went without certain foods, gasoline, and even clothing. We can't even bring ourselves to drive more fuel efficient cars to be less dependent on oil from Jihadist countries. They volunteered in droves to fight for America. Where are all the people that "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" when all branches of the armed forces are falling short of their recruiting goals? I'm sorry, but you can't support our troops while discouraging your son or daughter to join the military (See excerpt below from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette)!
Staff Sgt. Jason Rivera, 26, a Marine recruiter in Pittsburgh, went to the home of a high school student who had expressed interest in joining the Marine Reserve to talk to his parents. It was a large home in a well-to-do suburb north of the city. Two American flags adorned the yard. The prospect's mom greeted him wearing an American flag T-shirt.
"I want you to know we support you," she gushed.
Rivera soon reached the limits of her support. "Military service isn't for our son. It isn't for our kind of people."
For more on this, read here:
You could say that your children are supporting the troops. Because they are the ones who will be paying back China and other lenders for our deficit spending. Heck, China bankrolls our war debt while supplying your “patriotic” stickers. But sorry, you can't say that you are supporting the troops with some silly stickers and a flag in your yard. Real patriots are willing to sacrifice like the signers of the declaration of independence (many of whom lost their lives and families), the troops that stayed with Washington at Valley Forge, the countless mothers that lost sons in defense of our country and the soldiers who enlisted after 9/11 thinking they would be fighting Osama bin Laden (whoops!). These real patriots didn't decorate themselves with symbols. They supported our troops, our nation, through genuine sacrifice.
Oh but you say, "I voted Republican." Well, I guess that's all is asked of you...
