Drinking Liberally - Charleston, SC - Taking Action Part V
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent. ~Isaac Asimov
We're looking for only the competent with Drinking Liberally TONIGHT 5:30 pm and our coup de grace of the Army Men Project at Vickery's Downtown!
Tonight is extra-special, so we need all the Army Men troops we can rally at Vickery's! Not only do we finish spreading our message to BRING THEM HOME, but some of us want to get the message to Big Dickhead (that would be Dick 'I shot my friend in the face' Cheney - Geoff) himself while he's in town tonight.
5:30ish - Gather at Vickery's 6:30ish - Load up with little green men (see Leslie or marilyn) 6:45ish - Swarm Downtown with BRING ME HOME 7:00 - Hibernian Society Hall (or at least as close as we can get) Whenever o'clock - Regroup at Vickery's and celebrate St Pat's! If you haven't made it out to Drinking Liberally yet, come on down! Enjoy the thrill of mingling with a crowd of like-minded left-leaners!!

Black bean cakes and the turkey and brie sandwich are favorites for lighter diners, and there are plenty of burgers and fried stuff for those interested in junk-food snacking. It's one of the few places to dine outside downtown. (Charleston City Paper)

Censure and/or Impeach?
Raw Story: A new poll finds that a plurality of Americans favor plans to censure President George W. Bush, while a surprising 42% favor moves to actually impeach the President.
A poll taken March 15, 2006 by American Research Group found that among all adults, 46% favor Senator Russ Feingold's (D-WI) plan to censure President George W. Bush, while just 44% are opposed. Approval of the plan grows slightly when the sample is narrowed to voters, up to 48% in favor of the Senate censuring the sitting president.
Even more shocking is that just 57% of Republicans are opposed to the move, with 14% still undecided and 29% actually in favor. Fully 70% of Democrats want to see Bush censured.
More surprising still: The poll found fully 43% of voters in favor of actually impeaching the President, with just 50% of voters opposed. While only 18% of Republicans surveyed wanted to see Bush impeached, 61% of Democrats and 47% of Independents reported they wanted to see the House move ahead with the Conyers (D-MI) resolution.
The poll, taken March 13-15, had a 3% margin of error.
Usual grain of salt, but probably, in the least, a good indicator that public opinion is behind the opposition not the President. The right has tried to frame the request to censure the president as a rallying point for the base. This is either not the case (a possibility, there has already been another request for censure) or the 'base' of the Republican Party has eroded; most likely within the fiscal conservative wing and centrists who have an open mind toward both parties. This leaves the ultra-religious who continually allow this administration to monger their fear as a means and enjoy the talk of a religious utopia as an end. If this is the case, then let the base be rallied. It is not the same base they had in 04, but a weaker though hardlined group of true believers (in misleaders).
This graphic from Radical Russ through Delaware Dem captures this nicely (keep your eye on it, it'll change). [UPDATE] Wow does this look bad! It got compressed when I put it on my photo server and now looks like it would if one had a few to many Guinness' so far today. Please visit one of the links above for a better copy of the graphic.
The question arises of when the Dems think they should hold suspected criminals accountable to prove their innocence or face the music. Perhaps they want to wait till after the White House pushes for their conflict with Iran with hyped up claims and talks of preemptive strikes (which anyone who is logical would see this as a preventive strike but that's just semantics). Or after this so-called Operation Swarmer in Iraq. Then judge the atmosphere at that state in time. But most likely our Democratic is just weak, hoping to earn my vote by criticizing and accusing but without taking any real action. [UPDATE] I guess 06 comes into play here, perhaps I'm being to hard...
What better place than here? What better time than now?
The Zarqawi, Saddam and the al Qaeda Connection
Every once in a while I run into an Iraq War apologist that uses Zarqawi's presence in Iraq as the connection to al Qaeda. This is BS because Saddam was secular and feared al Qaeda and fundamentalist/extremeness Islam more than he feared us. But, none-the-less these people use this to gloss over failed foreign policy and a mess of a war that we are in (or you could say now in the middle of).
Well that rational has been dealt another blow...
The documents, the first of thousands expected to be declassified over the next several months, were released last night via a Pentagon website at the direction of National Intelligence Director John Negroponte.
Many were in Arabic - with no English translation - including one the administration said showed that Iraqi intelligence officials suspected al Qaida members were inside Iraq in 2002.
However, one of the documents, a letter from an Iraqi intelligence official, dated August 17, 2002, asked agents in the country to be on the lookout for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and another unnamed man whose picture was attached. I'm sure it will remain in some peoples minds as a great point, but it is a fallacy. Posted by Geoff

Of course, the regular D-Libbers already know this: This snazzy on the cheap restaurant and bar in West Ashley has captured camp and whimsy in equal measure. The red walls, thrift-store style furniture, and gold lamp curtains give patrons a 'to hell with it, give me a Singapore Sling,' kind of attitude. That's perfect, because there's a long list of tropical drinks, complete with three different kinds of liquor, fancy glasses, umbrellas, and even flames. The menu is casual but exotic enough to be interesting with great duck tacos, tasty hummus, and a pupu platter that is lots of fun, with a little grill in the middle to heat up your chicken kabobs. Be careful, though one good cocktail from the picture menu may make your situation a little dangerous.. (from Charleston City Paper)

KCs is a music-centric neighborhood bar with a little bit of an edge. Not really reaching critical mass until 9 or 10 p.m., this place caters to a mostly younger crowd with a huge shot menu. The mostly bar-food menu looks good, and you are going to need it after a couple of Ass Whuppins (Jaeger, Crown, Peach Schnapps, and Red Bull). (Scott Goodwin, Charleston City Paper)

Peace is a very complicated concept. When the lion gobbles up the lamb and wipes his lips, then there's peace. Well, I ain't for that peace at all. ~Abbie Hoffman
Hope you'll be joining us and the rest of the Drinking Liberally gang TONIGHT [UPDATE] at 5:30pm when we kick off DL Charleston's wing of the Army Men Project at Kickin' Chicken on James Island!
Normally, we're an agenda-less group, but this is an easy one: 1. Quick toast for peace (how ironic: $2.50 Sam Adams) 2. Load up with little green men (see Leslie, Sadie or Jen) 3. Cover James Island with BRING ME HOME 4. Gather back at the Chicken and swap war stories
If you like, you can continue with other festivities, as March Madness takes over the Chicken!
Kickin' Chicken — James Island 1175 Folly Road 843-225-6996 http://www.thekickinchicken.net http://www.mapquest...
The Kickin’ Chicken is no place for a food snob, but for the days when “just eatin’” is in order, this spot is right on the money. Lots of wings, big cheese-dripping sandwiches, fried chicken finger baskets, and cold beer are the modus operandi for this three-location joint. The salads clearly don’t fit in this shrine to junk food, so don’t even bother. The Kickin’ Chicken is successfully stuffing folks downtown, in Mt. P, and on James Island. (Charleston City Paper)

San. Frist Has Completely Lost It
WaPo: Frist, appearing on ABC's "This Week," said that he hoped al-Qaeda and other U.S. enemies were not listening to the infighting.
"The signal that it sends, that there is in any way a lack of support for our commander in chief who is leading us with a bold vision in a way that is making our homeland safer, is wrong," Frist said.
My God! Who in their right mind would think that there is significant support for anything this President does?
Bush's Approval Rating Falls to New Low
Job approval 37%
Few support this President because he has failed in a variety of ways and is a danger to this country.
This may be a surprise (wink, wink), but I completely support Sen. Feingold's motion to censure. It is only symbolic but that is the only avenue of accountability from a corrupted Congress.
Since when do we worry about what Iran or al-Qaeda are thinking regarding our domestic politics? The Republican Party's use of foreign threats for fear mongering and political gain is sickening. Posted by Geoff
