Ron Wilson of the SC state Board of Education:

Wilson was appointed to the 17-member state education board in early December by the Anderson County legislative delegation on a 4-3 vote. He earned his high school diploma in Sharon, Tenn., and attended a two-year machinist course at a vocational technical school in Mackenzie, Tenn., according to his application for the state board.

Meanwhile, the two candidates for the state board position who were passed over in favor of Wilson included a former member of the Anderson County Board of Education and a teacher with 27 years in Anderson County classrooms.

    ...

The state Board of Education deals with public school curriculum, teacher misconduct and textbook selection. Wilson, meanwhile, is considered a home-schooling advocate who used to sell the anti-Semitic book "Barbarians Inside the Gates" via the Internet.

and "Ron Wilson is well known in South Carolina and across the nation for racist and anti-Semitic views," The (Columbia, S.C.) State

and from tolerance.org and the SPLC:

"Mr. Wilson would seem to be a little short on educational qualifications," said Cordes G. Seabrook Jr., former leader of the Anderson County Republican Party and now part of the Alliance for Local Leadership. The Alliance hosted a recent meeting where two members of the local legislative delegation were grilled over Wilson's appointment.

Seabrook, of the Alliance for Local Leadership, worries history is repeating itself in Anderson County.

Wilson "would like to see creationism taught as the way the world turns. He wants the Ten Commandments hung around," Seabrook said. "He also calls homosexuals sodomites and does not want to see them teaching school."

    sighhhh. . .
